Mosquito repellent for yard care is easier than you think. You don’t have to rely on harsh dangerous chemicals to protect your family from mosquitos, there are many great products that you can use to protect your family from having the life sucked out of them when they’re out in your yard.
Mosquitoes doesn’t have to be in your yard. You can deter mosquitoes by trying out these ideal products. You can even include mosquito repellent candles that are made from essential oils and set these in and around your yard.

CITRONELLA GERANIUM (MOSQUITO PLANT)
This lovely plant is hated by mosquitos. It will add a lovely color to your yard while repelling the pesky critters.
The pink and purple blossoms look lovely and the citronella scent will repel the mosquitos. You can overwinter it by using proper propagation techniques. It will grow to 4 feet high if left unchecked. It’s a lovely addition to your yard and your anti-mosquito collection.
LEMONGRASS (CYMBOPOGON CITRATUS)
Not only is lemongrass edible, mosquitos hate it as well. This lovely grass like plant is an ideal addition to any garden. Reaching 4 feet high to 3 feet wide, the long lemongrass fronds are often used in Thai and Asian cooking.
Divide the bulbs for more lemongrass starts and make sure to plant several clumps of it around your yard to ensure that mosquitos stay away.
LANTANA (LANTANA CAMARA)
Frequently referred to as Shrub Verbena or Yellow Sage, this lovely plant will showcase blossoms of orange, pink, red, yellow and even purple. As an added bonus, it also repels deer and other critters but, the hummingbirds and the butterflies will love it and visit your yard often.
Ideal in containers or in the yard, it also thrives in soils that a lot of other plants don’t do well in. Even salty soils will work for this plant.
Important note to parents: A few of these varieties will produce small berry type fruit. It will turn black when it’s mature and they are poisonous and should be removed as soon as they appear.
‘CREEPING LEMON’ THYME
If you’re looking for a ground cover or some trailing herbs, this is your choice. Ideal to add to your cooking and another bonus is that the deer and critters also dislike this herb.
Left unchecked it can take over so be sure that you plant it where it can grow to its heart’s content. You’ll appreciate that it works well as a draping plant in containers or as a ground cover.
ROSEMARY
Another ideal herb to add to chicken or vegetables this one is also great to bundle and toss into a campfire to repel bugs. Planted as a companion plant is will also repel parasites, cabbage flies, and bean bugs.
MINT
Any variety of mint will help to repel mosquitos and aphids as well as ants. Ideal for flavoring your favorite tea or water.
Mint is another herb that will take over if you’re not careful so be sure to keep it in check and pinch it back so that you won’t have to give up the entire herb garden to mint.
LAVENDER
One of the most lovely of the garden herbs. It will also deter mice, fleas, and ticks while it’s repelling mosquitos. It lends a lovely scent to your garden and it’s great in lemonade.
As an added bonus, you’ll see more butterflies and birds and you can save the lovely flowers, dry them and make sachets. Or, bundle the flowers together and set them in a pretty vase to dry and enjoy the aroma year around.
You can also make your own mosquito repellent for yard care by steeping 2 Tablespoons of any of the above-mentioned herbs into 32 ounces of apple cider vinegar. Steep for 3 weeks, mix equal parts of vinegar and water and put in a spray bottle for your own insect repellent.
Or, you could use 1 cup distilled water, 1 cup witch hazel and 4 Tablespoons of any of the above-mentioned herbs. Include some mint.
